Job Specification

Copello are looking for a Principal Product Engineer with a strong Electro-mechanical subsystems background to work with a Defence Technology business who work on a variety of secure communications equipment for a variety of applications across land, sea and air domains.

This is a key role for the business and a great opportunity for the right person to take a lead role in the product development & design process.

Key deliverable of the role include:
- Lead the electro-mechanical design process for at least one of their key products, commissioning work packages for all design activity.
- Project manage a suite of small product development projects ensuring adherence to delivery on time, to budget and specification.
- Specify and design the electro-mechanical aspects of future equipment/products.
- Responsible for quality of design, verification & compliance and controlling change to products.
- Act as technical liaison with other functions of the business.
- Be willing to undertake domestic and overseas travel on occasion.

You’ll work closely with the Chief Engineer, R&D, Systems Engineering and Quality teams so good communication and team-working ability is key as is the ability to liaise on technical support issues with the end clients.

Candidate requirements:
- Ideally you’ll be degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in Electronic, Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronic disciplines.
- Good knowledge / experience with hardware / software including full competence with MS Office products.
- The role will encompass some physical elements from time to time so the ability to carry tools / kit over short distances as well as work at heights of up to 40 metres is required.
- Knowledge of Electro-magnetic Compatibility design and testing would be beneficial.
- Additional experience of Radio Frequency products, estimation, planning, FEA, CFD and systems engineering practices would be useful but not essential.
