Job Title:             Mechanical Design Engineer

Location:             Portland, UK

Hours:                  37 (over 4 days)

 

Position Summary:

The role involves providing manufacturing engineering support for composite and polymer products and processes, both new and existing. This support includes technical project planning, manufacturing instruction creation, communication with cross-functional teams, and optimizing production performance.

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide Manufacturing Information Sheets, route cards, bill of materials, and manufacturing specification data in line with company standards.

2. Develop cost-effective and efficient solutions that align with design-to-cost and design-for-manufacture principles.

3. Specify material requirements, manufacturing methods, and tooling and equipment needs.

4. Create test specifications and manufacture composite and polymer test samples.

5. Develop processes to achieve a production steady state standard that meets specifications and design requirements.

6. Support design and customer reviews and participate in other relevant meetings.

7. Assist Production and Quality Assurance in resolving production problems and non-conformances.

8. Apply Lean Principles to improve product quality, process flow, production cycle, and waste reduction.

9. Train employees on processes, applications, and manufacturing specification data.

Personal Requirements:

1. Hold a relevant engineering, manufacturing, or chemistry qualification and/or possess equivalent experience.

2. Have specific experience working with composite and polymer materials and their processing.

3. Be computer literate, with experience in Windows-based systems and 3D model-based definition (preferably CATIA v5).

4. Possess the ability to build successful working relationships, work independently, and collaborate as part of a team.

5. Demonstrate excellent communication skills at all levels.

6. Exhibit strong problem-solving skills through practical approaches.

7. Embrace a mindset focused on continuous improvement, zero defects, and customer satisfaction.

8. Be a flexible team player willing to adapt to varying workloads.
