Copello have partnered with an established defence engineering business based in Bristol, Glasgow or Portsmouth in the recruitment of a Principal Engineer within the Seamanship team.

 

The Principal Engineer will manage the Seamanship Team, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

You will lead and manage the technical work and engineering aspects for the following systems:

  • Arrangement of all Seamanship compartments
  • Anchoring, Mooring and Towing arrangements
  • Boat Davit & Side Door and Bulk Module Hatch
  • Boat facilities
  • Lifesaving Equipment
  • Guardrails & Stanchions
  • Upper deck life lines
  • All aspects of rigging & ceremonial items
  • Mission Bay Handling System
  • Mission Bay Side Doors
  • Replenishment at Sea

 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Management of Seamanship domain change process and review of all PRs before advancement to CR and Change Board for necessity
  • Liaison with customers on all technical issues requiring their buy-in and acceptance
  • Project Assurance Review attendance and associated Feeder Reviews
  • Engineering approval of all Seamanship technical specifications 
  • Engineering approval of all key OEM engineering CDRLs, including design disclosure, engineering interfaces, safety, materials, software, VCRIs, Test Schedules and Class Approvals
  • Manage production of:
    • Layout Drawings for Seamanship compartments for review by stakeholders
    • Technical equipment specifications
    • Procurement Pack documentation
  • Co-ordinate with systems engineers and detail designers on the integration of Seamanship systems

Essential Qualifications:

  • A degree in Engineering or relevant experience applicable to the role
  • A member, working towards membership of an Engineering Institution
  • Safety practitioner
  • Strong background in Naval Engineering
  • Knowledge of relevant engineering disciplines, standards and codes of practice
  • Working knowledge understanding of maritime design,  manufacturing, assembly, commissioning, integration and testing lifecycle and processes
  • Capable of understanding issues within a multi-disciplinary engineering teams and balancing conflicting requirements

 

This role offers a salary of up to £55,800 per annum along with a number of other great benefits including a competitive pension scheme, enhanced annual leave allowance and a Company contributed Share Incentive Plan.
