R&D Team Leader
Our client is looking for an individual to lead the design and development of the electronic and software division working on defence projects. You would be involved in the electronics and software team within in the group of the R&D department co-ordinating team activities internally and with department stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for electronics and software development throughout the entire product lifecycle
- Providing leadership and line management to the electronic and software engineers team
- To lead product development of electronic/software and activities concerning product compliance and certification according to industry standards
- Interacts closely with Systems Integration department to shape companies’ global electronic and software practices
- Responsible for alignment of team to companies global electronic software development practices
- Interacts closely with project and product stakeholders and communicate information clearly across R&D organisation
- Designs, develops and tests electronic or software work packages within the product development
- Facilitates continuous improvement processes
- Ensures documentation and release of all work via PLM/PDM and other company systems
Leadership
- Manages objectives of and actively mentors team members
- Responsible for implementing and managing organisational goals and objectives within department goals and KPIs
- Takes ownership and reports on the progress of initiatives
- Manages people within policy and monitors policy
- Manages employees and sets expectations
- Develops team capabilities and addresses any gaps in capability
Desirable
- Ability to take ownership for and lead product development in electronics and software
- An experienced engineer with familiarity of mentoring junior engineers
- Skilled at communicating with management, other engineering disciplines and team members
- Excellent data analysis and problem-solving skills
- High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality and reliability
- Excellent team player with practical and methodical working practices
- Expert in electronic engineering or software engineering
- Strong organisational skills to be able to work on multiple concurrent activities
Essential
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent
- Greater than 10 years of experience in developing electronics or firmware for embedded systems over the complete product life cycle
- Knowledge of laser systems is desirable
- Detailed knowledge of state of the art electronic and software technologies
- Proficient in leading a small team of engineers
- Experience of working with external partners.
