We always talk about hiring, interviewing, how to be different at interview, how to write your CV, etc etc…
But we often forget about how important it is to make the current work force feel valued and appreciated – which is a HUGE contributing factor to retaining your staff!
When you are recruiting and trying to attract new staff to your business, you will go the extra mile to get the talent. Bigger salaries to keep up with the market demands, additional bonuses will be offered, more flexible working, training courses and funding for studying etc.
ALL OF WHICH ARE AMAZING!
YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY KEEP DOING THIS TO ATTRACT THE TOP TALENT IN THIS TOUGH MARKET!
Just don’t forget to also offer these opportunities to your internal staff...
look after all your staff
It is really easy to look at your high performers, or your long term employees and overlook the contribution they make. Are they receiving the big claps, the company-wide announcements and celebrations that new people in the team would get for achieving the exact same thing?
Regularly applaud them for their great work that often goes unnoticed (just because it’s so expected now). Offer them the same benefits of flexible working and regular bonuses/ rewards.
Remind them that their commitment to the business doesn’t go unnoticed.
If we could work more on retaining staff and making them feel valued and important, just like when they first joined the business, your reputation will look after itself in the market. You will also face less challenges with recruiting, and your staff’s productivity will massively improve because they WANT to keep working just as hard!
