Senior Data Engineer

Copello is proud to be recruiting for an experienced Data Engineer to join a dynamic Data Modelling and Engineering Team. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful work that supports access to justice through data-driven decision-making.

About the Team & Project

The Data Modelling and Engineering Team is a collaborative group of Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers. Together, they build and maintain robust data pipelines and model data using dimensional modelling principles. Their work ensures that analysts, performance teams, and data scientists have access to reliable, well-structured data.

The current focus is on transforming the complex legal aid data landscape. In partnership with the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), the team is modernising and stabilising data systems to deliver trusted, accessible data products via an Analytical Platform.

In the short term, this role will involve:

• Establishing connectivity with downstream data systems
• Exploring a new data layer for LAA
• Conducting user needs analysis to inform model design
• Laying the groundwork for API-based data extraction and scalable data solutions

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate with upstream teams to integrate legal aid data into the Analytical Platform
• Design and develop scalable, maintainable data pipelines
• Contribute to the creation of a new data layer for the LAA
• Support the delivery of high-quality, trusted data products

Skills & Experience

Essential:

• Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, and Jinja
• Experience with cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
• Familiarity with orchestration tools (ideally Airflow)
• Experience building CI/CD workflows (ideally using GitHub Actions)
• Up-to-date knowledge of modern data engineering practices
• Proven ability to design and develop data pipelines
• Strong communication skills and experience working with cross-functional teams
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (ideally Terraform)

Desirable:

• Hands-on experience with DBT and implementing DBT best practices
