Verification & Validation Lead – Physical Domain

Bristol based (hybrid working)

The Opportunity

We’re working with a leading defence organisation that is looking for an experienced Verification & Validation Lead to join a high-profile programme developing next-generation defence technology.

The role will sit within the Physical Domain, with responsibility for coordinating verification and validation activities across the weapon system to ensure that the physical design meets defined system requirements, performance expectations and programme commitments.

The Role

As the V&V Lead – Physical Domain, you will work closely with the wider Weapons System team and a range of engineering disciplines to ensure that the physical design is appropriately verified, validated and certified throughout the development lifecycle.

You’ll be responsible for coordinating physical certification activities across areas including:

  • Environmental and EMC performance
  • Power utilisation
  • Storage and transportability
  • Physical design compliance
  • Verification evidence and certification

A key part of the position will be coordinating V&V work packages across both internal engineering teams and external suppliers, developing appropriate certification and verification strategies and ensuring that Design Verification Plans provide sufficient coverage of the relevant requirements.

This is a technically focused role, so while you won’t necessarily need to be an expert in every subsystem, you will need a strong understanding of how complex engineering systems are designed, integrated and verified.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate physical-domain V&V activities and provide compliance statements and configuration management information for system-level review
  • Assess the impact of engineering and design changes on verification and certification activities
  • Develop and maintain verification strategies and ensure appropriate requirements coverage within Design Verification Plans
  • Manage requirements and verification information using Application Lifecycle Management tools
  • Lead technical progress meetings, supplier reviews and engineering milestone reviews
  • Coordinate activities across internal teams, suppliers and subcontractors
  • Support key stages of the engineering development lifecycle, including PDR, DDR and CDR
  • Monitor and manage the schedule, cost, quality and technical performance of assigned work packages
  • Identify technical risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
  • Lead design reconciliation activities following design changes and develop associated V&V approaches
  • Track defects and verification issues through to resolution, working closely with engineering and development teams
  • Support the development and maintenance of regulatory and compliance documentation, including CE marking activities
  • Contribute to technical publications and other supporting engineering documentation
  • Provide technical input to customer queries relating to product use, compliance and certification
  • Work collaboratively across a multidisciplinary engineering environment, engaging with systems, mechanical, electrical and software teams

What we're looking for

We’re keen to speak with engineers who have experience in systems engineering, verification & validation, hardware development or product certification within a complex engineering environment.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • A good understanding of systems engineering principles, processes and development lifecycles
  • Experience working with requirements at system, subsystem or component level
  • Knowledge of hardware design, development and integration
  • Experience developing or executing test and verification procedures
  • An understanding of how verification evidence is generated and used to demonstrate product compliance and support certification
  • Experience working within structured engineering development and design review processes
  • Strong technical problem-solving and risk management skills
  • Confidence communicating technical information to engineering teams, suppliers and customers
  • Experience producing technical reports and engineering documentation
  • Familiarity with configuration management and requirements management tools

Experience within defence, aerospace, complex electronics or other highly regulated engineering environments would be highly advantageous.

Security Requirements

Due to the nature of the work, applicants will need to be British Citizens or Dual UK Nationals who hold British citizenship.
