PCB Technologist
Salary: Up to £40,500 depending on experience
Location: Hybrid – typically 3 days per week on-site
Copello are working with a leading organisation within the defence and advanced engineering sector who are looking for a PCB Technologist to join their team.
This is a hands-on opportunity for an electronics engineer who enjoys fault-finding, problem-solving and getting to the root cause of complex hardware issues. You’ll play an important role in developing and supporting component failure analysis capability across sophisticated electronic systems, working closely with engineering, manufacturing and test teams.
The Opportunity
Joining a specialist electronics engineering function, you’ll work as part of a team providing technical support across a range of UK programmes, while also collaborating with international engineering teams.
The role will give you exposure to electronic products throughout their lifecycle, from development and design through to manufacturing, testing and production support. You’ll be involved in investigating failures at component and circuit-card level, carrying out laboratory-based analysis and helping to identify the underlying causes of hardware issues.
There’s also an opportunity to contribute to the development of new failure analysis processes, equipment and techniques, making this a role where you can continue to build your technical knowledge and develop into a subject matter expert.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate electronic component and circuit card failures using a combination of fault-finding techniques and laboratory-based analysis
- Work closely with teams across Component Engineering, Electronics Design, Manufacturing and Test to diagnose and resolve issues
- Support the introduction and assessment of new failure analysis processes, equipment and technologies
- Collaborate with internal teams, external suppliers and international engineering partners where required
- Develop an understanding of how materials, components and PCB/CCA manufacturing processes can contribute to electronic failures
- Produce clear technical reports and contribute to engineering standards and documentation
- Support the delivery of technical work packages while working to agreed cost, quality and timescale requirements
- Undertake relevant technical training, both internally and externally, to further develop your expertise
- Provide technical support across PCB technology, component engineering, PCB layout and circuit card assembly activities
The position involves working collaboratively across multiple engineering disciplines, so you’ll have plenty of opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge and gain exposure to different areas of electronic product development.
What We're Looking For
We’re interested in speaking with Electronics Engineers who have experience in areas such as:
- Fault-finding electronic/circuit card assemblies down to component level
- Using electronic test equipment and laboratory techniques to investigate hardware faults
- An understanding of electronic design and component specifications
- Knowledge of PCB, circuit card assembly and electronic manufacturing processes
- Experience working across engineering or manufacturing work packages
- The ability to balance cost, quality and delivery requirements
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A track record of delivering technical work to agreed timescales
Experience within defence, aerospace or another highly regulated engineering environment would be advantageous, although relevant electronics experience from other industries will also be considered.
Working & Security Requirements
This is a hybrid position, with the expectation that you will typically be required to work 3 days per week on-site.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates will need to be British Citizens or Dual UK Nationals with British citizenship.
