Manufacturing Engineer

Working Pattern: Strong on-site requirement due to the nature of the role

The Opportunity

We’re currently supporting a leading organisation within the defence and advanced engineering sector who are looking to appoint a Manufacturing Engineer to join their PCBA team.

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established Manufacturing, Prototype and Development environment, working across a varied range of PCBA products from early-stage development through to production.

You’ll be involved with low-volume, high-mix development PCBA, helping mature designs for transition into serial production, as well as supporting medium-volume, low-mix production-standard assemblies.

The role also offers opportunities to broaden your manufacturing engineering expertise, with exposure to areas such as Industrial Validation, Manufacturing Architecture and Factory of the Future initiatives.

The Role

Working closely with the Principal Engineer and wider engineering teams, you’ll be responsible for identifying and resolving manufacturing issues across multiple projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Supporting continuous improvement (CI) activities across manufacturing.
• Supporting the Non-Conformance Process, helping identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
• Working closely with Design Authorities during prototype and development phases to optimise Design for Manufacture (DfM).
• Supporting design changes and NPI activities, including the development of PCBA manufacturability design rules.
• Developing and maintaining robust, repeatable manufacturing processes, methods and equipment.
• Building strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers and cross-functional teams.
• Producing and reviewing manufacturing work instructions and build documentation.
• Reviewing and managing design changes, including the creation and maintenance of Bills of Materials (BOMs).
• Providing technical support to operations and resolving manufacturing issues directly on the shop floor.
• Conducting and reviewing PFMEAs.
• Supporting the transition of products from development into serial production.

What We're Looking For

We're keen to speak with candidates who have a strong manufacturing engineering background, ideally with experience in electronics, PCBA or a similar production environment.

You'll need one of the following qualification routes:

• A degree in a relevant engineering or manufacturing discipline
• Advanced Level / Level 3 apprenticeship in Electrical, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering
• Plus a Level 4 qualification such as an HNC, Diploma or equivalent in a relevant discipline
• Plus a Level 3 vocational qualification such as an NVQ, unless already achieved through a Level 3 apprenticeship standard
