Copello are recruiting for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a leading defence and engineering organisation based in West Wales. This is an excellent opportunity to work on the development of cutting-edge systems and technologies within a highly regulated and mission-critical environment.

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing and integration of embedded software solutions, working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role throughout the software development lifecycle, contributing to innovative projects that support defence and national security programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and maintain embedded software applications using C and C++
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis through to verification and validation
  • Develop software for real-time and embedded systems environments
  • Support software integration, debugging and troubleshooting activities
  • Produce and maintain technical documentation in accordance with project and quality requirements
  • Collaborate with systems, hardware and test engineers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Contribute to software reviews, design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure software development activities comply with relevant industry, quality and safety standards

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience developing embedded software in C and/or C++
  • Experience working within embedded or real-time systems environments
  • Understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
  • Experience with debugging, testing and software verification techniques
  • Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements and produce robust software solutions
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience within the defence, aerospace, maritime, automotive or other highly regulated industries
  • Knowledge of embedded Linux, RTOS or bare-metal development
  • Exposure to hardware interfaces and communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART or Ethernet
  • Understanding of safety-critical software development standards
  • Experience with continuous integration and automated testing environments

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be eligible to obtain and maintain the appropriate UK security clearance. Applicants should therefore be able to satisfy relevant nationality and residency requirements.
