Copello are recruiting for an Embedded Software Engineer to join a leading defence and engineering organisation based in West Wales. This is an excellent opportunity to work on the development of cutting-edge systems and technologies within a highly regulated and mission-critical environment.
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, testing and integration of embedded software solutions, working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role throughout the software development lifecycle, contributing to innovative projects that support defence and national security programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and maintain embedded software applications using C and C++
- Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from requirements analysis through to verification and validation
- Develop software for real-time and embedded systems environments
- Support software integration, debugging and troubleshooting activities
- Produce and maintain technical documentation in accordance with project and quality requirements
- Collaborate with systems, hardware and test engineers to ensure successful project delivery
- Contribute to software reviews, design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure software development activities comply with relevant industry, quality and safety standards
Key Skills & Experience:
- Proven experience developing embedded software in C and/or C++
- Experience working within embedded or real-time systems environments
- Understanding of software development methodologies and best practices
- Experience with debugging, testing and software verification techniques
- Familiarity with version control tools such as Git
- Ability to interpret technical requirements and produce robust software solutions
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
Desirable Experience:
- Experience within the defence, aerospace, maritime, automotive or other highly regulated industries
- Knowledge of embedded Linux, RTOS or bare-metal development
- Exposure to hardware interfaces and communication protocols such as CAN, SPI, I2C, UART or Ethernet
- Understanding of safety-critical software development standards
- Experience with continuous integration and automated testing environments
