About the Role

Copello is recruiting on behalf of a leading defence organisation for a Mechanical Integration Engineer to support the integration of complex payload systems onto advanced platforms. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of cutting-edge defence technology, contributing to the successful delivery of high-profile programmes in a highly regulated environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the mechanical integration of payloads and associated systems, ensuring that designs meet performance, safety, and operational requirements throughout the product lifecycle. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, you will support design activities, integration trials, testing, and verification activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the mechanical integration of payload systems onto platforms and sub-systems.
  • Develop and review integration solutions, ensuring compliance with technical, safety, and programme requirements.
  • Produce and maintain engineering documentation, including integration plans, reports, specifications, and technical assessments.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, software, and manufacturing engineering teams to resolve integration challenges.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, and configuration control activities.
  • Conduct investigations into integration issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
  • Assist with prototype builds, integration trials, testing, and validation activities.
  • Ensure engineering activities are delivered in accordance with applicable industry, customer, and regulatory standards.
  • Support suppliers and stakeholders throughout the integration and verification process.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience in mechanical integration, systems integration, product development, or engineering delivery within a complex technical environment.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering lifecycle processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain SC Clearance.

Desirable

  • Experience within the defence, aerospace, marine, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Knowledge of payload integration, mission systems, sensors, communications equipment, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with requirements management and verification activities.
  • Experience supporting testing, qualification, or acceptance activities.
  • Understanding of configuration management and engineering change processes.
  • Knowledge of CAD tools and engineering analysis techniques.
